Contemplating Laser Hair Removal? This Video Reveals The Very Close Up Reality

Cassie Delaney

A new video by Veritasium reveals exactly what happens during laser hair removal.

The very close and slightly unnerving video shows the hair follicles burning and “exploding” under intense beams.

The video explains that dark hair contains melanin and the purpose of laser hair removal is to have the melanin absorb laser beams, heat up the hair and evaporate water it contains.

The hair bubbles and burns but the objective is to actually use the hair to destroy the germ cells in the follicle of the hair.

Veritasium describes the process of using the hair to destroy the hair.

Basically, the hair is heated so high that it kills the cells around it.

And while the process is described as safe, the video claims it’s important to realise that melanin is an important substance in our bodies, designed to protect us from the sun.

The video further explains that laser hair removal is the world’s most requested beauty procedure.
