Margot Robbie has signed up to play Tonya Harding in a movie about her life, I, Tonya.
Tonya Harding is one of the best-known athletes from the world of figure skating. Unfortunately, her talents are not what she’s remembered for, but instead for the part she played in an attack on one of her fellow contestants.
She was becoming very well-known at only 21 years of age for winning the U.S. Figure Skating Championships and coming second in the World Championships.
According to Deadline, she was training for the 1994 Winter Olympics, when her fellow American skater, Nancy Kerrigan, was attacked a month before the competition.
Tonya’s husband and some of her bodyguards planned the attack in a bid to take her out of the competition by breaking her leg. Luckily they didn’t succeed and Nancy got away with only a few bruises.
Tonya’s husband turned against her to stay out of jail and she was implicated for the crime which resulted in a lifetime ban from skating.
Margot Robbie will play Tonya in the movie about the events which lead to her receiving the ban. There is no confirmation on which actors will star opposite her or who will direct.
