This Type Of Personality Finds It More Difficult To Get Over A Break-Up

If you're still feeling love-lorn, this might just help you out.

Break-ups are never easy.

There’s the emotional rollercoaster, followed by the blame-game and while some people move on, others can dwell in that pit of sadness for too long.

The thing is, there’s no hard-set rule on how long it should take you to get over an ex.

Now a new study reveals that people with ‘entity theory of personality’ – those who label themselves as a ‘creative’ ‘nerdy’ or ‘sporty’ – find it more difficult to deal with break-ups as they judge it as a rejection of themselves rather than the relationship shared.

Researchers Lauren Howe and Carol Dweck conducted five surveys, asking 891 participants about hypothetical and real-life rejections. The team wanted to understand how and why some people take rejection better than others.

According to the study published by Stanford University researchers in the Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, the study found that those who found it more difficult to deal with break-ups feel like the issues raised for the breakdown are a personal reflection on their personality.

So what’s the takeaway lesson in all of this?

While you might play a part in any relationship breakdown, it’s important to know that it takes two sets of emotions, arguments, feelings and needs to work out what’s right for you both.

So try and be a little easier on yourself.

Life’s already hard enough without you piling on more pressure.
