Calling all Leaving Cert students!
Up to your eyeballs cramming for mocks? Totally confused about the CAO? The good news is that you’re halfway through the year, and you’ll be finished with school in a few short months.
With a little help from our friends at IT Sligo, we’re bringing you seven things every student experiences during their Leaving Cert year. How many ring a bell for you?
1. Calculating CAO points…
Will become your new favourite obsession hobby. Every potential combination of points will be calculated and re-calculated until it turns into one complete blur of numbers.
2. You’ll find many new and exciting ways to avoid studying
Your time outside of the classroom will consist of: creating beautiful time-tables, tidying your room, re-arranging everything in your wardrobe, tidying your room again and Snapchatting about doing all of the above. On repeat.
3. There will be sunshine
During the final run-up to the exams, Ireland will be treated to a spell of sunshine not seen since… last year’s Leaving Cert. All around you, people will be stripping off, topping up their sunburn and tucking into 99’s, while you’ll be stuck inside cramming for English Paper Two.
4. “Léigh anois go cúramach, ar do scrúdpháipéar, na treoracha agus na ceisteanna a ghabhann le Cuid A.”
This sentence will slowly seep its way into your nightmares.
5. You’ll highlight entire chapters of your books…
In fits of panic. Sheer, blind panic. You’ll forget everything you ever knew and then remember it all again just as quickly.
6. People will start praying for you
Aunties, uncles, parents, cousins, grandparents, neighbours. Everyone you know will be lighting candles for you, and sending their good wishes. Constantly.
7. The great poet debate
Between discussing where to go out on results night and who’s bringing who to the Debs, sounding off about which poets are most likely to appear on English Paper Two is the go-to conversation before the Leaving Cert.
