For most of us, the creations that cascade down the catwalks during the various fashion weeks will never make their way into our wardrobes, so it can be a little depressing, knowing you’ll never get your poverty stricken paws on them.
But the one show that gives us mere mortals hope has to be Topshop Unique.
There’s nothing traditional about the Topshop Unique show. Set this year in the bowels of the Tate Modern – they’re the first brand to ever stage a show in the gallery space during fashion week – the catwalk was sparse and minimalistic, allowing the celeb filled FROW to fully focus on the clothes.
And focus they did.
Cropped angora jumpers that were pure 90s Britpop, oversized mannish coats in sugary sweet colours and lots of texture, the collection was eclectic, a contrast between edgy and elegant and very, very cool. And we wouldn’t expect anything less from the high street maverick.
Oh and FYI – blue eyeshadow is back.
But, best of all… Topshop Unique is attainable! So for a couple of minutes, you too can feel like the spoils of fashion week can be yours.
