If you’re already over the schmaltz and over-the-top displays from Valentine’s Day, here’s a timely reminder of what real love looks like.
Bill and Glad have been married for fifty years, and after so many happy years together Glad is now sadly suffering from Alzheimer’s disease, so Bill has dedicated his days to making sure he’s looking after the love of his life like only he can.
In the touching three-and-a-half minute video William explains that from the moment Glad gets up in the morning until she goes to bed at night, he does everything for her. But it’s no burden – instead, he counts it as “a privilege”.
“This is the year when we’ll celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary… Our story has been a lovely story.”
The pair met as children, and Bill fondly recollects how and eight-year-old Glad used to stare at him playing footie when he was nine, but the younger Bill had no time for girls. When he reached seventeen and she sixteen, however, it was an entirely different story…
As bikes played a big part in the young lovers’ courtship and early years as parents, Bill didn’t want to lose that part of their life, and so he had a bike chair made specially so he could take Glad to the beach she loves.
“She’s my princess, I’m her William”, he says.
“We love each other.”
