Images showing true community spirit have surfaced today, as neighbours and farmers rallied to transport a coffin to the graveyard amid severe flooding.
The community came together to ensure that the remains of Johnny Clarke were transported safely from the church at Newtowncashel in Co. Longford to the graveyard at Saint’s Island on Loughrea.
According to JOE.ie, Mr. Clarke passed away on Christmas Day, and due to heavy flooding in the midlands, mourners were forced to transport his remains on a trailer connected to the back of a tractor.
Mourners sat on bales of hay alongside the coffin as it ploughed through 4 ft of water on the flooded causeway.
