You can’t take us anywhere.

Australia has become a second home to many Irish in recent years. Some make the long journey home for Christmas, others soak in the Aussie summer sun and trade turkey with the full trimmings for a few shrimp on the barbie. Notions.

As preparations are underway here for Santa’s arrival, the good coats are getting dusted down for Christmas Eve mass, and families pine for loved ones in other corners of the globe, just know that wherever any of the Irish contingents are, they’re celebrating…

With a drink in one hand, an arm around a friend and singing the only song we know as a nation.

Olé, olé, olé.

This short clip, which was sent into our brothers over at JOE, was filmed by Cavan man Stephen Tormey in Cairns on Christmas Eve.

They’re about 10 – 12 hours ahead, so we’d like to wish Stephen and all of the Irish in Australia a very Merry Christmas. We’ll say a prayer for you all at Midnight mass tonight (at 9 pm).

Thanks to Stephen Tormey for sending this our way. If you have something you would like to share with us, send it to hello@her.ie or hit us up on Facebook or Twitter.
