Is This Japanese Tradition The Most Bizarre Christmas Tradition Ever?

How did we not know this?!

Cassie Delaney

Naturally Christmas isn’t that big a deal in Japan.

Approximately only 1% of the population is Christian. Still, they’ve taken a pretty odd tradition inspired by our festive feasts.

According to Mashable people in Japan queue for hours to get a bucket of KFC chicken for their Crimbo dinner. The tradition is so prominent that the meal now comes with champagne and cake.

The story goes that foreign travellers in the early 70s were unable to find turkey on Christmas day and opted for the finger lickin’ good chicken instead.

Apparently it caught on due to an insanely successful marketing campaign by KFC in 1974.

No stuffing and pudding though? We’re certainly not convinced.
