ALONE have released a touching Christmas Memories video reliving the Christmas memories of some of the older persons they work with.

The video aims to highlight the loneliness that some older persons may feel around the holiday season.

Made by filmmaker Cian Brennan, the video features Rita, Joan and Cecil.

In it, the three share their favourite memories, from their love of the Christmas pudding, hatred of Brussels sprouts and even an encounter with the main man; Santa Claus.

Sean Moynihan, CEO of ALONE commented, “Christmas can be a particularly isolating time for older people who have no loved ones to share it with.

With this video, we are trying to remind people that many older persons within their community will be alone on Christmas day with nothing but their memories of Christmases past. If everyone could take thirty minutes to reach out to an older person in their community it would make the world of difference.”

ALONE say that there are a number of ways that the public can help an older person this Christmas some of these are; calling by an older person house to say hello, ensuring they have enough food, medication and heat, bringing them out for a drive or to a social event and giving them a hand with their shopping.

ALONE provides a crucial befriending service to those who may feel isolated. In the lead up to Christmas, they will provide hot meals to numerous people, host a dinner dance and attended by over 130 people and deliver over 500 hampers full of vital supplies to those living independently.
