We all know that running a family home adds up. Every single day, more and more expenses sneak in and drain away at our budget.

Whether it’s forking out for new school books, spending money on daily essentials or unexpected bills, sometimes it can be hard to save anything. We understand. But what if there was a way that you could still enjoy family life and save those all-important pennies?

For the next few weeks we’ll be giving some simple tips on how you can get the best bang for your buck when it comes to runing a family home.

________

Go on a family picnic:

Take advantage of a fine spring day by having a picnic with your children

Spring is in the air, the evenings are getting brighter and the temperatures are starting to get that little bit longer.

As well as nicer weather, there are a few things that spring is synonymous with: Pancake Tuesday, the start of Lent and the February midterm break (the final school break before Easter rolls around).

If you’re looking for a simple and cost-effective way to entertain your children when they get their midterm break  at the end of this week, why not take them on a picnic?

Picnics are a great form of entertainment because you can literally up sticks and go anywhere you want. Why not take the kiddies to a local nature reserve or to your local playground? Getting to eat outside will be a novelty for them and they’ll also get to enjoy some fresh air.

You can spend your evening exploring a local park, the countryside or just enjoying getting outside for a few hours.

The best things about picnics is that they’re simple to organise and they won’t break the bank. Simply use up whatever food you have in the fridge to make some sandwiches and a salad.

If you want to treat your kids, why not buy them an icecream while you’re out and about or treat them to dinner in a nice restaurant once you’re done exploring and having fun for the day?

The next time you see the weather picking up outside, throw a few sandwiches together, rally the kids and head outside – both adults and children alike will have a great time.
