Siobhan Tumelty faced a similar challenge when her husband was tasked with choosing their first home after they had been married for seven days.
The pair were featured on Watch TV’s Honey I Bought The House, a show which offers couples a sum of £15,000 towards their first home on the condition that only one of them gets to see the place before purchasing.
Jack spotted damp patches on the wall but this didn’t deter him
While it might sound like a great idea in theory, it didn’t work out too well for Siobhan and Jack as he chose a South Wales property that she described as a ‘dive’, smelling of cigarettes and sporting noticeable damp patches.
The couple had different opinions on the requirements of their first home as Siobhan was looking for a ready made family home and Jack was willing to invest time and money into the property.
Siobhan viewed three houses before she was told which one Jack had picked and she was not impressed by her other half’s choice.
Siobhan was pretty upset by her husband’s choice
After a first look at the property, she said: “It is going to take loads of money to do anything to this I think. This is the worst of the three, if it is this, I am gutted”.
Siobhan said it would take years to do up the house but Jack was of the opinion that they had to be realistic about what type of home they could afford as first-time buyers.
In the end, Jack won his wife around and they went through with the sale but not without a few stressful moments.
