Have you heard the one about the Tipperary hurler who won the Lotto?
Hurler of the Year 2010 and star of the Premier County side, Lar Corbett is rumoured to have scooped the €10.6 million Lotto jackpot on Wednesday last.
Corbett, who opened Lar Corbett’s Bar in Thurles in 2011, is believed to have won the huge sum after buying a quick-pick at Scanlon’s shop in Liberty Square, Thurles.
The 31-year-old is in New York right now, but not spending up a storm just yet – he’s there on a trip with fellow GAA stars to rebuild sports facilities for youths, which had been damaged by Hurricane Sandy.

The Irish Independent reports this morning that Corbett was approached about the rumours that he was the lucky winner when he arrived at JFK airport, but he neither confirmed or denied, saying just that he played the lotto with his business partner Kevin Coppinger, and that was the person to speak to.
The prize is yet to be claimed according to Lotto HQ, but if there’s anything to the rumours there might be a few free drinks in it for anyone who drops by the pub this weekend, and surely a new sponsor for the county team?
