Rarely has the phrase ‘a picture speaks a thousand words’ seemed so appropriate.

This image taken by Louise Byrne, Crime Correspondent for Dublin radio station 98FM, shows an estimated 2,500 uniformed members of An Garda Síochána at the funeral of tragic Adrian Donohoe today.

Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe was killed in the line of duty last Friday by a gang who were in the process of robbing Lordship Credit Union, County Louth.

The 41-year-old’s funeral took place in Dundalk this afternoon at St Joseph’s Redemptorist Church with both the President and Taoiseach in attendance, but it is this image of fellow Gardaí showing their respects for their fallen colleague that will sum up the heartbreak for most.

Last night the Irish League of Credit Unions offered a €50,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and prosecution of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe’s killers.
