It’s official, when it comes to sex condoms don’t make the experience less enjoyable. Good to know, especially if someone is trying to convince you otherwise, right?
A new study from the School of Public Health at Indiana University has found that men and women enjoy sex just as much with condoms as they do without. This information highlights what we’ve been told for years: that protecting ourselves is just as sexy and that, despite popular belief, condoms don’t actually ruin the experience.
Researchers reviewed an online questionnaire of the sex havits of men and women and found that participants consistently said that safe sex was “highly arousing and pleasurable” giving it the same rating as unprotected sex.
The nationwide American study revealed that men also did not find it difficult to keep things, ahem, up while they were putting on condoms, putting paid to the old excuse of “I won’t be able to perform if I use a condom.”

The study could help when it comes to promoting safe sex
Dr Debby Herbenick, the lead researcher, said that the study will help to target health messages in the fight against sexually transmitted infections, HIV and accidental pregnancies.
Irwin Goldstein, the editor of the Journal of Sexual Medicine, said that the study was important because it continued the work of Alfred Kinsey, a noted sexologist who founded the Institute for Sex Research at Indiana University in 1947.
“Gathering sexual data regarding condom use is highly relevant. Understanding current condom use offers health care providers and opportunity to educate those people uncomfortable with condoms but for whom lack of use may lead to significant sexually transmitted infection health risk,” he said.
The study just goes to show that protecting yourself (and your partner) won’t ruin the experience of having sex. Remember: there’s nothing sexier than staying safe!
