When it comes to budgeting your money are you an expert or could you, like many of us, do with a little help in this department?

We all know that running a family home in modern Ireland can be pretty  tough. When you take taxes, loans, bills and all the other expenses into account, mapping out your finances and figuring out your own personal budget can be majorly confusing.

For the next five days, we’ll be bringing you the top five budgeting tools online that will hopefully help you to make some plans when it comes to your finances. The best thing about these budgeting tools? They’re all available online, they’re super-easy to use and, most importantly, they’re free of charge.

Is 2013 the year that you get back in control of your personal finances?

What is it called?

Mint.com

What does it do?

Rather than being a single personal budgeting tool, Mint.com is a website designed to help you understand what’s going on with your money. The website does all the work of organizing and categorizing your spending for you, so you can see where your money is going.

How do I use it?

Mint.com is a website that prides itself on its user-friendliness. It’s sleek, streamlined and very easy to use. You do have to sign up in order to use it, but it’s completely free and all of your information will be safe. To use it you simply give the website your budgeting information and then it shows you exactly where you rmoney is going on a monthly basis. The website uses colourful piecharts, different icons for different categorys and easy-to-follow bar charts to reflect your spending habits back to you.

What is its best feature?

We love the financial goal tool. If you have a financial goal that you really want to achieve, such as a holiday abroad, you can type it into the tool which will then tell you how much money you’ll have to put away on a monthly basis in order to reach your goal. It’s fun and easy to use.

Where can I find more information about it?

To learn more about Mint.com, simply log into the website itself by clicking here.
