We’ll admit it, we got a bit emotional after we heard the story of Ciccio the dog. What’s so great about him? Well, despite the fact that his owner has been dead for two months, every day Ciccio turns up at the church where his owner went to mass.
The Telegraph reports that the 12-year-old German Shepherd waits in front of the altar at the Santa Maria Assunta church every single day, hoping that his owner will appear.
The dog makes his way to the church as soon as the bells start to ring each afternoon, just like he did for years when his owner, Maria tu lu Campu, was still alive.
Ciccio’s owner died suddenly back in November and the devoted dog even attended her funeral, following her coffin as it was carried into the church.

The priests allow the dog to come to the church every day and sit in front of the altar
The dog’s loyalty to his owner (even in her death) has impressed the residents of the village of San Donaci in Puglia, Italy, so much that they have now adopted him as their own. Every day they bring him food and water and let him sleep in a covered area just outside the church.
Donato Panna, the local priest, allows the dog to sit in front of the altar during masses, baptisms and other holy services. The priest is now hoping that he can find a loving new home for the poor dog who is pining for his owner.
Dog’s really are wo(man)’s best friend aren’t they? We hope Ciccio finds himself a new home soon enough.
