Now, we don’t know about you, but most times when we experience a Facebook reunion it’s when an ex sends us a friend request. Shudder. But here’s a Facebook reunion story that’s guaranteed to warm your heart on this drizzly Thursday.
Two Bosnian sisters who were separated almost 72 years ago have finally met for the first time with the help of the social networking website.
The Nezavisne Novine Daily reported that Tanija Delic and Hedija Talic had not seen each other since 1941, when Hedija was separated from her family as they were fleeing their village at the start of World War II. She was only 11 years old at the time.
Hedija ended up in an orphanage and sadly, both her parents were killed during the war. However, she never found out what had happened to her sister or her brother.
“After the war, people were telling me all kinds of things,” said Hedija.
“Some were saying that my family was killed, others that they moved to the US. I lost any hope that I would see any of them again,” she added.
As she grew older, Hedija moved to a village near the northeastern town of Tuzla in Bosnia, completely unaware that her sister (whom she presumed had also died during the war) lived nearby.

Hedija and Tanija were reunited after 72 years apart thanks to Facebook
Hedija and Tanija rediscovered each other after Hedija’s son got interested in his family tree and stumbled across his aunt’s daughter randomly on Facebook.
The sisters said that “tears and disbelief” dominated their emotional reunion and they shared memories of “the smallest events from childhood” with each other.
They are now trying to trace their brother who they think is still alive and living in the United States. We wish them the best of luck and hope that they can reunite their family for once and for all.
