4. Raise the temperature slowly.
We all know that the Irish winter can be pretty unforgiving in terms of low temperatures, chilly winds and freezing nights. We also know that trying to heat your home during these dark winter months can cost an absolute fortune. It’s a problem that affects thousands of Irish people – you need the heat to stay warm, yet you’re struggling in terms of your finances.
One way to lower your heating bill is to be smart about things. Instead of whacking your heating on at full blast as soon as you walk in the front door, try raising the temperature slowly.
Why should you do this? Well, quickly raising your heat pump’s temperature activates this thing known as the ‘heat strip.’ The heat strip is a bit of technology that actually uses a lot of energy, resulting in a higher heating bill for you.
By raising the temperature gradually, the heat strip has time to adjust to the new temperature meaning that it uses less energy and as a result costs you less money.
You get to have a toasty, warm home without incurring any sneaky heating costs. We don’t know about you, but it sounds like a definite win/win situation to us!
