When cult classic Clueless hit screens in 1995, girls the world over found a new breed of fashion icon.
Forget the supers or celebrities, the main characters in the iconic flick – Cher, Dionne and Tai – became an overnight success and our penchant for their preppy LA style has stood the test of time.
So if you’ve been dying to re-create the hit films sartorial swagger and need a little 21st century inspiration, Wildfox’s latest collection is it! The brand has released their spring 2013 lookbook and it pays homage to the film in a big way. From the models in the campaign (lookalikes of the three girls) to t-shirts emblazoned with logo’s such as “I Live Above Sunset”, “Whatever”, “As If” and our personal fave “Shopping Is My Cardio” this is pure un-ashamed Clueless worship and we must confess we heart it in a big way!
While Wildfox’s designer Kimberly Gordon may not have been a teenager when the 1995 film released, she still felt connected to the classic film and wanted to pay homage to it through fashion.
She told Wildfox blog: “I have always wanted to express something creatively that is more than just fashion, it’s a feeling, a lifestyle, it’s about being a girl. It’s capturing a moment”
“I think I felt it first when I was about 12 around when Clueless came out and I was so in love with the characters, I didn’t just love the clothes, I loved the girls who wore the clothes – which made me want to wear them even more.
Something tells us that Clueless is going to be re-watched the world over in the next few weeks… hopefully not sporadically.
