We don’t know about you but we’re inclined to think that this little kid is a big, big leged. Meet Evan, the 10-year-old boy whose letters to a local cat rescue shelter have gone viral online.
Evan’s story was first shared on the website Reddit, but since then, it has spread like wildfire and we can see why (it’s absolutely heartwarming).
A few years ago, Evan (who was 7 years old at the time) adopted a cat from the City Kitties rescue shelter in Philadelphia. He was so happy with his new pet that in 2009, he decided to start giving money from his allowance to the rescue shelter (along with some adorable written letters).
This is his first letter:

Just in case you can’t read the above, here is what it says:
“Dear City Kitties, my name is Evan. I am 7 years old and guess what?…I LOVE cats. They are my favourite animals and I got… My cat at City Kitties as well!! Thank you for letting me get my new cat. I get an allowance every week and I chose to make a donation to you. I love that you help cats find homes. I saved this money to help you help cats.”
According to an email from Evan’s parents, the boy saved his allowance for months on end until he had $46.75 to donate to the cat shelter that first time.
Struck by the charity bug, the following year Evan decided to up his game and sold figs from his family’s tree in a makeshift ‘shop’ in his front garden. He made a whopping $86 and promptly donated it to City Kitties (along with another note).

But the story doesn’t stop there. In 2011, Evan saved up his allowance again and made a donation of $97 just in time for Christmas. Check out his letter:

This year, Evan saved $110 for the cat shelter and his parents agreed to match his amount, meaning that the total donation to the shelter was $220. Incredible or what?
Again, here it is just in case you’re having trouble reading the above:
“Dear City Kitties, I hope you have had a great year! I have given my annual holiday donation with this letter. I am enclosing… $97.00! I saved up a lot of money this year! How is Clark Kent? I hope he is getting better! I am so happy that people like you are around to save abandoned kitties from danger! I want to help you do that and I hope other people will help too! Fondly, Evan. P.S: Our city kitties are doing great – (depsite Macha playing roughly with Calvin and Elsa).”
We have no words other than fair play to you Evan. We wish there were more kids like you out there!
