Between January 1980 and December 2014, at least 163,514 women and girls travelled from the Republic of Ireland to access safe abortion services in another country.
163,514 women.
In this new series we want to tell as many of those women’s stories as possible. We’re sharing stories anonymously, publically, through audio, video and editorials in an effort to tell the holistic story of abortion in Ireland.
In order to illustrate the anonymity of those 163,514 we are allocating numbers to each of the stories we share. These numbers are not accurate and are intended only to reflect the volume of abortions accessed.
If you would like to participate in this series please contact cassie.delaney@her.ie. All emails shall remain anonymous.

“Do you want another child to look after or do you want to kill it?”
The piece below, originally recorded by No More Shame, tells the story of a woman who terminated her pregnancy as she already had twins and couldn’t care for another child.
No More Shame aims to tackle the social stigma surrounding abortion in Ireland. It aims to open a space for honest dialogue and enable women who have gone through an abortion to have their voices heard whilst still protecting their identity.
