Shine On! This Fashion Trend Is Tipped To Still Be Big For Spring/Summer

Knowing how to wear metallics during the day is one of this season’s hottest trends. Not just limited to jewellery and accessories, metallic finishes and fabrics are showing up on jeans, knits and skirts.

While these glitzy pieces would have previously been evening-wear only they’ve now come out to play during the day. And they are the perfect way to create a luxe everyday look.

Metallics can be very showy but a matte finish makes for a more casual look. The high street especially Zara has gone big on matte metallic finishes in their denim range – these look great worn with chunky knits. Other items like metallic leather skirts are much less in-your-face when they’re in a matte finish. Brocade skirts and trousers are another way to work the trend that when worn with other more casual fabrics makes for cool off-duty style.

If you’re not ready to go the full hog then statement shiny accessories are your best bet: metallic clutches or shoes are all you need to give an outfit some pizzazz.

The next easy peasy option is jewellery, so instead of your usual fine gold and silver pieces go big or go home! This season the style set have gone crazy for metallic collars, big earrings and statement cuffs. Top Tip: pick up two identical plain silver or gold cuffs and wear them together Wonder Woman style. Trust us this will look really chic when worn with a simple blouse or top.

Pair your metallic pieces with a neutral colour palette – as a general rule gold looks great with cream, pink and camel while silver is better suited to black, grey and white.

There is one key trick to mastering this trend: one statement metallic piece per outfit is enough – this way it’s the focal point of your look. Another ‘rule’ is when wearing metallics during the day avoid at all costs anything too tight or too short as this will look too ‘disco’. Instead go for pieces like A-line skirts, tailored trousers, structured Tees or slouchy knits.
