The 15-storey Joseph Plunkett Tower is the last of seven tower blocks in Ballymun due to be demolished today.
The surrounding area was being cleared earlier this morning to allow a long-reach hydraulic nibbler to begin breaking down the flats from the top down.
Four of the previous towers were demolished in the same manner, with two towers being torn down with the use of controlled explosives.

It is expected the process will take up to three or four weeks to complete.
The Joseph Plunkett tower was built in 1967, housing 90 two and three bedroomed apartments.
The decision to remove the towers originally began under the Ballymun Regeneration Project.
Local residents were rehoused in new units in the surrounding area.
