If you’re dreaming of a getaway but can’t match your wanderlust to your bank account, the latest study might be just the ticket you need to booking a cheaper flight.
A new report from Thrillist and Expedia analysed the costs of booking both domestic and international flights, and the results mean you could start taking out your calendar to mark off those holidays.
So what’s the secret to snapping up the cheapest airline ticket?
For starters, don’t book your tickets on a Friday, Saturday or Monday – as these are typically the days with the highest airline prices.
Instead opt for a Tuesday to secure your seats.
It’s all down to timing as well, with a recent Expedia survey finding that you can save up to €250 if you book international flights 171 days in advance, while you’re looking at pocketing a €50 saving for domestic flights booked 57 days ahead of your departure date.
Want to make a long weekend of it?
According to Expedia, a long-haul flight (more than six hours) that leaves on a Friday and gets back on a Saturday is 20 per cent more expensive than one that leaves on Thursday and gets back on a Monday.
The most expensive short-haul flights are those that book on a Friday to return on Saturday night.
So planning an October break or looking at the trip of a lifetime next year?
Best pull out the calendar and start working on your maths skills.
