A British Father whose 15-month-old son was involved in a hit and run incident has spoken about his guilt after learning he was responsible.
The 15-month-old boy was seriously injured in what was thought to have been a hit-and-run in Cheltenham on Friday.
Jamie Ellison issued an appeal for information on The Gloucestershire Echo newspaper Facebook Page.
“I beg anyone who was on Hester’s Way Road between 8:30 and 8:40 … doing school runs or catching a bus etc to please call the police and help find who did this to my little man x thank you x,” he wrote.
However when CCTV footage was gathered from the scene, it showed that Ellison backed into the boy – named AJ – on his driveway when he was taking his two daughters to school.
Ellison said he did not see or hear the collision, and wrote in a Facebook post;
“Yes it was me. I just didn’t see him or feel a bump. So imagine how I feel right now to be told that I accidentally ran over my own son. Think about that. That guilt will be with me forever.”
He explained that the toddler had been at the window of their home waving goodbye as he strapped his daughters into the car.
AJ was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital but has since been released, and according to his father, is recovering well.
Gloucestershire police said in a statement: “After conducting inquiries, it has been established that the boy was involved in a collision on a private driveway, with a vehicle being driven by a close family member.
“The collision is not being treated as suspicious and no further action will be taken against the driver of the vehicle at this time.”
