Oops they did it again…
Katie Taylor looked radiant in a blush pink gown as she took to the stage to accept RTE’s Sportsperson Of The Year Award last night and viewers who were looking forward to hearing the gold medallists thank you speech were left bitterly disappointed after the national broadcaster accidentally cut to an ad break.
The Bray boxer was accepting her award from Minister for Sport Leo Varadkar when the programme was suddenly cut short, leaving viewers outraged and highly disappointed.
RTE Head of Sport Ryle Nugent was quick to respond to the blunder telling Twitter followers “Sincere apologies for the technical issue at the end of tonight’s programme,we’re investigating how it happened.”

A statement from the broadcaster read “RTÉ would also like to apologise for a technical problem the occured during the end of tonight’s live broadcast. The issue is currently being investigated and we regret this interruption to viewers. The final part of [the] programme will shortly be on the RTÉ Player uninterrupted.”
22-year-old Katie brought home Ireland’s only gold medal during the London Olympic games this summer and although she is planning a short break over the festive season, she’ll be back in the ring on December 26th.
