Government Announces Plans For Ireland To Welcome 4,000 Refugees

The Government has today announced plans to welcome refugees into Ireland under the Irish Refugee Protection programme.

Minister for Justice Frances Fitzgerald has revealed that Ireland will welcome 4,000 refugees.

This figure includes 600 people already committed under the proposed EU Relocation programme, with 520 refugees already being resettled to Ireland.

The news comes following a special Cabinet meeting earlier today.
