If you love to use a straightener or curler on your hair, but find that sometimes the tools just don’t give you the effect you want, then this might be the haircare tip you’ve been waiting for…
While a hair straightener or curling wand can give a new lease of life to lacklustre or crazy hair, finding the perfect temperature to style your tresses is half the battle.
If your temperature is too low, your hair will become dull and lifeless, but too high and you can singe your hair (causing breakage and that strong burnt smell).
So what heat should you be hitting for perfectly styled locks?
According to researchers, 185C is the ideal temperature for your hot hair-styling tools.
Keeping your iron at this heat means you’ll be able to style your locks with the least amount of strokes, helping retain moisture and seal the cuticle. This is turn leaves you with shiny, smooth and humidity resistant locks.
A lower temperature can cause your hair to break from repeatedly going over the same patches with the heating tool which breaks the hair fibres, while the hotter temperature can destroy the natural protectors in your hair… which could lead to repeated trims to keep it thick and full.
Want to make sure you’re using the perfect heat per product?
Haircare experts recommend buying a styling tool with an adjustable heat setting that you can leave at 185C – and prevent damaging your hair with a higher heat.
