Unless you have been hiding under a rock, you’ll probably be aware of the Audi Galway competition that sparked outrage over the past few days.
Yesterday, we reported how Audi Galway had landed itself in some hot water after the results of a social media competition were questioned by fans.
Last week, the car dealership posted a Facebook competition offering fans the chance to win a 152 AUDI A3 Cabrio for the August Bank Holiday Weekend.

Fans were asked to “like” and share the post as well as tagging “a friend you want to bring for a spin”.
The competition post, designed to boost the Audi Galway social media presence, stated that the winner would be announced on Friday, July 31st at 3pm.
The competition proved successful at first, with the Facebook page growing from 9,000 to 39,000 followers in a matter of hours. Yesterday afternoon, a winner by the name of May Lydon was announced. However, as fans quickly noted, there was no such Facebook user with that name.
The dealership was quickly faced with a barrage of comments suggesting the competition was “fake” or “fixed”, with several comments being deleted and the original announcement post disappearing from the page.
Despite releasing a statement to Her.ie explaining their version of events, it’s fair to say Audi Galway are about to face a few days of backlash online from disgruntled followers.
That’s where Dan Donohoe comes in.
The Leitrim man, who is currently looking for PR and marketing work in the Galway area, decided to apply for the role of Audi Galway’s social media manager…
The Facebook comment on the brand page has since earned Dan more than a 1,000 likes (and that’s despite the angry audience).
While we’re not sure whether he’ll be getting a call anytime soon, it’s definitely one way to get your name out to possible employers!
Hat-tip: Thanks to Carrie Fletcher for sending this our way!
