If you’re looking to have a big family, this latest research might make for some pretty interesting (if not shocking) reading.

While the NHS came under fire last month for suggesting that women should start their family before the age of 30, the latest research from Dutch scientists claim there are new calculations for what age women need to follow to get pregnant in time to achieve their dream family.

Calculating the risk of decreasing fertility and looking to fall pregnant without the means of treatment or IVF, Dutch researchers now believe you need to get pregnant at the age of 23 if you hope to have at least three children.

Studying the results of more than 58,000 women, researchers drafted a timescale to make a conscious effort of considering your chances of conception if you decide to wait.

Happy to settle for one or two? Well according to the study, 32 is the perfect age to start trying naturally for your first child.

Speaking about the results published in New Scientist magazine, Dik Habbema from Erasmus University in Rotterdam in the Netherlands said:

“My son is 35 and many of his friends have a problem deciding when to have children because there are so many things they want to do.”

Habbema added that he hopes the study will help other young couples trying to decide on the right time to start a family.
