More Irish women die from strokes, heart attacks and cancer than anywhere else in the EU and are much more likely to die from preventable diseases than women in other countries.
The latest EU/OECD revealed that while deaths from cervical cancer have decreased in other countries, the number of Irish women dying from the disease has increased.
The study revealed that more Irish women seek medical attention for chronic obstructive pulmonary lung diseases such as emphysema and bronchitis, which reflects that Irish females smoke more than women in other European countries.

Irish women suffer poorer health than other women in Europe
25 per cent of Irish women are obese which is the third highest in the EU and female alcohol consumption has increased by 25 percent since 1980.
The research also revealed that the death rate for breast cancer ranks the third highest in the EU.
Although the study revealed that the health of Irish women is quite poor, Irish men ranked closer to the European average.
