The singer has said that he would quite like to follow in Gary Barlow's footsteps.

Robbie Williams wants to be a “national treasure” just like his former Take That band mate Gary Barlow.

The Candy singer told James Corden on Sky One’s When Robbie Met James that he wouldn’t mind an OBE.

The singer was speaking to James Corden for a television programme.

“Do I think I’m a national treasure? I don’t see why I shouldn’t be. I’m a good lad really,” he said.

“I have a gigantic ego and need to be at the top of the pile and be doing amazingly well; at the same time I’m pleased to be anywhere.”

Gary Barlow, who co-wrote the song for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee and also organised the concert, picked up his OBE from the lady herself earlier this week.

Gary received his OBE along with golfer Darren Clarke and others this week.

But Robbie insists that it’s nothing to do with past rivalry because he and Gary are now good friends and work well together.

“There’s genuinely a great chemistry with me and Gaz… I get respect from one of the best song writers in the world and that’s all I ever wanted,” he explained.
