Ireland To Host World Rugby Sevens Qualifier This August

There was some very exciting news for Irish rugby fans this week as it was revealed that Ireland will be hosting a World Rugby women’s sevens tournament this August.

It was announced on Monday afternoon that Ireland will host the tournament at UCD on August 22nd and 23rd.

The IRFU were selected to host the World Rugby WomenÕs Sevens Series Qualifier 2015, which will see 12 teams, including Olympic qualified Brazil and Colombia, compete for the two remaining places on the coveted 2015-16 World Rugby WomenÕs Sevens Series. The tournament will see 12 teams competing for the two last places on the 2015-16 World Rugby Women’s Sevens Series.

The Dublin venue will play host to more than 200 players and management over the course of the competition.

“This qualifying tournament in Dublin is extremely important for World Rugby and of course the individual teams involved,” said World Rugby Chairman, Bernard Lapasset.

“Competition is fierce at this level and it is very encouraging to see that the overall standard of the women’s game is rising all the time.”

The tournament will be held at UCD.

The news comes in the wake of the announcement that the Irish Rugby Football Union and Ulster Rugby will host the Women’s Rugby World Cup in 2017.
