Ladies, if you’re a bit squeamish when it comes to bikini waxing, you might not want to read the following. We’ll admit that we couldn’t help but wince when we heard this…
According to reports today, bikini waxes are being blamed for an increase in women being admitted to hospital with injuries to their private bits. Seriously.
The Daily Mail reports that injuries caused by women grooming their lady-gardens have increased five-fold in recent years, according to some new research. And while it is still men who account for 70 per cent of injured-genital-related hospital admissions in America, the number of women being admitted is on the rise.
The survey, which was conducted by doctors at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF), showed that around 16,000 people in America ended up in emergency departments with genital injuries every single year.

Could your monthly bikini wax cause you to end up in hospital?
“While women were overall less likely to endure genital injuries than their male counterparts, there was at least one exception: cuts and infections related to shaving or grooming pubic hair,” said Dr Benjamin Breyer, the lead researcher of the study.
“The last few years have seen a dramatic increase in these types of injuries in women, and a second study that was recently published by the same UCSF group found that these types of injuries increased five-fold between 2002 and 2010,” Dr Breyer added.
For months health experts have been warning women about the dangers of bikini waxing, but many of us turn a blind eye because getting rid of pubic hair is something that has become “expected” of us in modern life.
