They may have turned out to be the most stable couple on the hit TV show FRIENDS, but it turns out they were never supposed to last.
It has been revealed that Monica and Chandler were only ever meant to have a one night stand. (What!?)
According to the show’s co-creator Marta Kauffman, the only reason the relationship lasted beyond The One With Ross’ Wedding was because of the huge reaction from the lucky live audience who witnessed the scene being filmed.
Speaking at the ATX Television Festival, Marta said: “We had to stop the show because people were screaming.
“We had to rethink how we were going to keep going and change the relationship. It was an entire, immediate expression of joy.”
We owe a lot to those FRIENDS fans who fought for the cause that day – without them we never would have had THAT heart-wrenching proposal scene. (Although we kinda think it was destiny.)
Either way, we can’t imagine the show without Mondler.
