Waves, braids and ponytails

From natural waves to messy bed head looks, effortlessly chic locks were a key theme of the Spring Summer 2015 runway shows.

To celebrate the start of the summer season, we’ve paired up with Herbal Essences Clealy Naked Collection to take you through three key hair trends, and provide you with some top tips from celebrity stylist Ben Cooke to create these looks at home.

1. Beachy waves

Carefree, loose waves are a huge trend this season, as seen at the Valentino, Chloé and Marchesa Spring Summer 2015 runway shows.

How to get it: “Hair that looks healthy and shiny, but effortless. Start with a volumising shampoo and conditioner for refreshed, clean and naturally shiny hair. Towel dry, then use a large barrel tong to curl sections and gently mist with a shine-boosting spray for a high-gloss finish –  the ultimate Californian wave.”

2. Fishtail braids

From Donna Karan and Giorgio Armani, to Michael Kors and Tome, braids of all kinds were on show on the SS15 runways. The fishtail, however, is timeless and remains our favourite.

How to get it: “Fishtails are a more grown-up version of the braid, and look super stylish with a side parting.

You want the ends of your hair to be super nourished as they are on display so use a moisturising shampoo and conditioner like Herbal Essences Clearly Naked Moisture. Side part the hair and plait to the opposing side, right through to the very ends. Secure with a small bungee band and gently tug out some of the hair on the crown for a tousled finish.”

3. Low ponytails

The SS15 runway shows proved that the ponytail is going absolutely nowhere. The standout feature was the low ponytail, which could be seen at the Gucci, Giambattista Valli and Jason Wu runway shows.

How to get it: “The classic ponytail is back with an update. The hair is best described as ‘second dat hair’ – a really casual take on a functional style. To rock this style, start with a dry shampoo, spritzing it into the roots and massaging in to give that ‘lived in’ feel.

Secure hair at the nape of the neck with a simple hair tie or bungee band. Backcomb the hair and gently run your hands back over the crown to release a few wispy hairs. Done!”
