A 79-year old Colombian woman fulfilled her lifelong dream of graduating this week, proving it’s never too late to go after what you really want.

Rose Salgado told the Miami Herald how she always hoped to go to college, and when she graduated from Miami Dade College with a degree in education she was proud to do it alongside two of her grandchildren David and Mauricio Salgado.

Salgado told the paper how she had originally moved to the United States in 1995, before beginning her studies in 1996.

As well as minding her family and helping her daughter overcome a car crash which left her in a coma, Salgado kept studying to achieve her dream.

Speaking about her achievements, Professor Sara Bulnes said:

“She had some personal setbacks, and she beat them all, and I’m very proud of her.”

Graduating with honours this weekend, the grandmother said she hopes to inspire others to keep going after their ambitions:

“I would say to students, young, old or in the middle, that every day they have to fight to learn because learning is wonderful. And I know there are a lot of things I still have to learn.”
