We can’t count the amount of times we’ve left the house without so much as a cup of tea and it turns out we’re not the only ones.

According to a new social media survey, carried out by Ireland’s favourite porridge brand Flahavan’s, more and more people are having their breakfast at work.

In fact, a whopping 41 per cent of people who work outside the home admitted to grabbing the most important meal of the day in the office.

The most popular reason for doing so was that most just weren’t hungry when they got out of bed first thing in the morning.

Almost a quarter of those asked said they skipped breakfast at home in order to beat the traffic. Others said they like to have more time to get ready while some revealed they’d prefer to spend the extra few minutes in bed.

As for the people who do have a bite to eat before they leave the house in the morning, almost a quarter said the hassle of bringing food with them was too much. Some said they had no canteen facilities in work and over 17 per cent said they like having breakfast with the family.

In terms of what we like to put on porridge, fresh fruit was the clear winner with banana being the most popular choice. A quarter admitted to having a sweet tooth, opting for honey or sugar (that’s definitely us).

Speaking about the findings John Noon, Flahavan’s Sales and Marketing Director said: “We see a growing consumer demand for a healthy breakfast that can be enjoyed anywhere, be that on the go or in work.

“In particular the phenomena of professionals who eat breakfast at their place of work. Our growing range of Quick Oats pots, sachets and drum means that there’s always time for a nutritious and convenient breakfast on the go.

“Flahavan’s, has been looking after Irish families’ wellbeing with healthy nutritious breakfasts for generations.   We recognise, and this survey confirms, that while the pace of life has changed, particularly for the younger working population, people are not prepared to miss out on a proper breakfast.”

This study was carried out by Flahavan’s. They are offering our readers the chance to win a year’s supply of Flahavan’s breakfast products for their office. Head on over to their Facebook page to enter and follow them on Twitter for weekly #OfficeOats giveaways. Good luck!
