Last night over nine million people tuned in to watch Emmerdale’s first-ever live episode in which a village villain got his comeuppance and two new additions made their first appearances.

The hour-long special, which was in celebration of the soap’s 40th anniversary, saw the end of Carl King who was murdered after making a right show of himself at Chas and Dan’s wedding.

Dan and Chas were set to tie the knot last night but it didn’t go to plan.

Carl turned up to the ceremony covered in blood and ruined his ex’s big day. After Chas walked out and left Dan, she became embroiled in a fight with Carl who confessed that he killed his own father.

Obviously concerned for her own safety, Chas ended up hitting Carl over the head with a brick. However it wasn’t enough to kill him as the bad boy started to recover from the strike.

That was until Cameron came along and delivered the fatal blow after Carl refused to agree to keep Chas and Cameron’s affair a secret from Debbie, who is Cameron’s girlfriend and was giving birth at the time. We know, it’s hard to keep up!

Cameron, who was having an affair with Chas, delivered the final blow to Carl.

But Debbie wasn’t the only silver lining of the dramatic episode. Gennie and Nikhil also welcomed a baby girl and you’ll never guess where she gave birth… Chas’ wedding reception.

Meanwhile, at the other wedding of the evening, Katie and Declan tied the knot before Katie was dunked into her own cake. Pretty tame in comparison to the other nuptials.

Still, it was an incredible live episode and really did have a little bit of everything!
