The Holistic Way: Eight Simple Steps To Healthy Winter Skin

We tend to forget about how the harsh winter weather affects our skin... here are eight simple steps to healthy, glowing winter skin.

Winter is a-coming! Your to-do list might include things like stocking up on winter woollies for the wardrobe or making sure you have soup ready for a long day at work… but some of us haven’t even thought of the harsh effects the cold, wet months ahead have on our skin.

What we’re aiming for is beautiful, balanced skin for this season. Stay holistic with these following tips and you’ll be guaranteed to be glowing…

Hydrate

There is nothing worse than a stuffy, unnaturally warm office. Keep well-hydrated internally and prevent chapped skin and dry, red, uncomfortable nostrils. Try and avoid alcohol and coffee as much as possible as these dehydrate your body and skin. For your lips? Cult product Vaseline will never go wrong.

Keep It Balanced

It’s difficult to keep in mind a balanced diet packed full of minerals, fatty acids and vegetables in the middle of the winter, but you’ll feel, and look, all the better for it.

Try A Cleanse

Her.ie columnist Georgina Ahern tried a juice cleanse at the start of the season. It will help regulate your skin and body and can purify the kidneys and clean and strengthen blood.

Cut Down On Sugar

Cut down on sugar where possible. Try and avoid sugary and heavier fried foods. These can cause congestion in your digestive system and can result in dull skin and a decrease in energy.

Exfoliate Regularly

Keep your skin soft, supple and clean with a soft exfoliation twice a week. Use a loofa sponge in the shower to scrub your body but be careful not to be harsh on your facial skin. A light exfoliating sponge will do the trick. Something simple will do, check out this one from Boots.

Get Your Snooze Hours

Sleep is more important than you think. Rest your body and be sure to get an early night, this will encourage regeneration of body cells and tissues.

Exercise

It might be tough to drag yourself away from the couch and go for a walk, but you won’t regret it. It will increase blood flow to every single organ in your body and will always give you a beautiful, healthy glow.

Have More Sex

Yes, indeed! Sex will improve blood circulation. It helps to eliminate toxins and reduce hormone levels, balance and control acne and boost collagen production to prevent ageing and dryness.
