A couple married for 73 years who both suffered from Alzheimer’s have died within five minutes of each other – despite living in separate nursing homes.
Lillian Karr Wilson and husband William met in high school, falling madly in love and marrying in 1941.
The couple married before the second world war despite protests from their parents. The pair eloped and, when Bill returned after the war, had three sons who called their death a ‘blessing’ in its unison.
The couple’s son Doug, got two calls just five minutes apart during the early hours of April 7th, telling him his parents had both passed away.
Speaking to Kentucky.com, Doug said:
“We all look at it as a blessing because we’re having one funeral for both of them.”
According to the family, the news was a relief, as their mother Lil had once said after a health scare,
“I’m not going till Bill goes.”
Holding out on her promise, Lillian died at 3.57am, just two minutes after Bill was pronounced dead.
