A man is on trial in New York for the alleged assault and rape of an Irish student in the Hamptons in 2013.
According to reports, the 38-year-old man has waived his right to a jury trial and the case will instead be heard by Supreme Court Justice Barbara Kahn.
The Irish woman, who was aged 20 at the time, was said to be at the end of her J-1 visa when she arrived at the Hamptons.

The trial of Mr. Jason Lee starts today.
It has been reported that she visited a nightclub with a friend in August 2013 where she allegedly met Mr. Jason Lee.
He invited the students back to his home after the nightclub finished where the alleged rape took place.
Mr. Lee is pleading not guilty. His legal team is claiming that the encounter was consensual.
