Avril Lavigne has spoken out about being diagnosed with Lyme disease.
The singer, who sparked concern among fans last year when she took a break from the spotlight, has revealed that she was very unwell.
When she went to Las Vegas to celebrate her birthday in October, she realised that there was something wrong.
“I could barely eat, and when we went to the pool, I had to leave and go lie in bed,” she told People. “My friends asked, ‘What’s wrong?’ I didn’t know.”
Shortly after this the 30-year-old star, responsible for hits including Complicated and Sk8ter Boi, was diagnosed with a severe case of Lyme disease.
“I had no idea a bug bite could do this. I was bedridden for five months… I felt like I couldn’t breathe, I couldn’t talk and I couldn’t move. I thought I was dying.”
She added: “There were definitely times I couldn’t shower for a full week because I could barely stand. It felt like having all your life sucked out of you.”
Back in December Avril had to shoot down rumours she was in rehab. At that time she confirmed she was having health issues but did not go into details.
