Ladies, you’re going to want to have some fresh bed sheets ready by the time you finish reading this story…
While we all know our mammy would curl up and die to think how little or often you may change your bed sheets, an overwhelming number of men and women admitted to letting their bedsheets skip out of their regular laundry pile.
A study from Women’s Health magazine showed that out of a group of 1,187 readers, 44 per cent of women wash their sheets once a week, 31 per cent wash theirs twice a month while 16 per cent said their bed clothes just once a month.
Of those polled, almost 32 per cent of the women also claimed to almost never change their pillow cases…
So what can you expect to find lying in your bed sheets?
Well apparently as well as your half-sleep deprived body rolling around in your bed sheets, you can also find a host of dead skin, bacteria, fungus, mites… oh and fecal matter.
According to Philip Tierno, Ph.D. and the Director of clinical microbiology and immunology at NYU’s Langone Medical Centre, we should be washing our sheets once a week just to ensure the bacteria build-up isn’t wreaking havoc with your skin.
Tierno also warns that the build-up of sweat and skin attracts dust mites, and gives them food to munch on and multiply.
So what does he recommend you do to keep yourself as clean as possible?
Wash your sheets every week.
Best stop off and buy some detergent so!
