The marriage breakdown of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes is sure to feature on the 2012 episode of Reeling in The Years but new information has come to light about their scandalous break-up.
According to the National Enquirer, the couple had been broken up for some time before Katie bit the bullet and called it quits on their marriage.
Although the divorce documents state that the couple officially ended their marriage in August, the publication reveals that the marriage had been finished at least six months prior to the proceedings.
The information comes from documents leaked from the New York court and a source revealed that the “marital relationship” had “broken down irretrievably for a period of at least six months immediately preceding.”

The leaked documents also reveal that although the couple held a wedding in Italy in 2006, they actually wed in Los Angeles, and the pair signed a solid pre-nuptial agreement five months before they wed.
Following their divorce, Tom must pay $400,000 a year to fund the couple’s daughter Suri’s education, medical and dental insurance, and extracurricular and camp expenses.
The pay outs will continue until Suri is 18, and will cost Tom $4.8 million.
