It was one of the standout films of the last three years and won a number of awards so it’s no wonder that all of the stars of The King’s Speech want to return for the sequel.
Rumours have it that leading man Colin Firth, who won an Oscar for his performance, is more than willing to reprise the role of King George VI in a sequel that is said to focus on World War II.
The first film won a number of Oscars, BAFTAs and Golden Globes.
“The sequel is going to be about the experience of families during the Blitz. It will focus on how the privileged royal family was hit by the crisis, compared to the more ordinary family of George VI’s speech therapist,” a source told The Sun newspaper.
Geoffrey Rush is also keen to step back into his old role as the King’s speech therapist. So too is Helena Bonham Carter who played Colin’s onscreen wife in the first film.

While the source explained that the follow-up is still in the “very early stages,” we don’t think there’s any doubt that it will happen.
After all, who wouldn’t want to add to the incredible award collection and the hundreds of millions that the first film delivered?
