Fashion Screen Dublin previewed The Eye Has To Travel at the Light House Cinema in Smithfield last night.

The documentary, made by Vreeland’s granddaughter-in-law Lisa Immordino Vreeland, offers a charming insight into the character of Diana Vreeland, legendary and formidable fashion editor of Harper’s Bazaar.

Lisa Immordino Vreeland obviously went to the Wes Anderson school of film as the documentary spans multi media including film, photography, animation, graphics, text and music. Diana’s sharp-as-a-whip commentary plays over the witty short clips throughout, creatively tying together the story of a true original. Outspoken, outlandish and intimidating Diana Vreeland was a fashion force to be reckoned with.

There’s quotable gold throughout but one that stood out was “Diana was the first blogger!” Back in her day Diana was famous for sending out witty quips in the form of memos to staff and contributors. We’re impressed. Long before the technology was there this lady knew the power of a tweet!

Sweet and sharp, sentimental as well laugh-out-loud funny, uplifting yet poignant we can’t recommend this film enough. We guarantee you will leave with fire in your belly, a passion to do better and a need to talk to your gran!
