This is just heartbreaking…
Childhood sweethearts married for almost seventy years have died at their Californian home just five hours apart while holding hands.
Floyd Hartwigs aged 90 and his 89-year-old wife Violet brought Nicolas Sparks’ romantic tale ‘The Notebook’ to real life as the pair remained inseparable right up until their final moments.
The pair wed in August 1947 during the Second World War when Floyd returned from the Navy on leave. The lovebirds settled on a Easton ranch farm and went on to have three children.
According to the Independent, Floyd suffered from colon and bladder cancer while Violet had dementia and suffered a number of strokes.
On February 11th, Floyd passed away holding his wife’s hand. Violet died five hours later.
“We felt blessed because we know that is what they wanted,” the couple’s daughter Donna said.
“When we went to the funeral home and saw the two caskets, it was meant to be and that was the only way it could end.”
