Like father, like son. Domhnall Gleeson, the actor and son of Brendan Gleeson, has a bright acting future ahead of him as the young man is named as one to watch in the upcoming months.
The 29-year-old Dubliner is showing his talent on the big screen at the moment in the IRA thriller ‘Shadow Dancer’. He was the only Irish actor to be named on the Variety magazine’s hot list of names to watch out for in the near future.
The younger Gleeson has just finished up filming for the new Richard Curtis comedy ‘About Time’ with Rachel McAdams in London.
The eldest of Brendan’s brood, Domhnall is also due to appear in two new movie releases in the autumn, ‘Anna Karenina’ and the new ‘Judge Dredd’ film.
Gleeson is as grateful for his acting opportunity now as he was the first day he began his career. He said of his role in ‘Anna Karenina’, where he plays a young landowner who falls in love with the female lead; “I saw the film after we finished shooting in February and all I could think of was how proud I was to be involved.”
Domhnall will join forces with his dad and other Irish actors including O’Dowd and Aidan Gillen and David Wilmot in John Michael McDonagh’s ‘Calvary’ in the coming weeks.
Variety have it right, his career is certainly taking off.

The actor was also a part of the final two Harry Potter films.
Domhnall’s acting talent has been recognised before. In 2006 he won a Tony award on Broadway for his role in Martin McDonagh’s play ‘The Lieutenant of Inishmore’.
He even took a break from his college film studies in DIT to travel to America to appear in the play at the time.
Variety magazine compile their ’10 Actors To Watch’ list every year, picking out actors they believe will make their mark on the big screen or stage in the coming months.
Actors who have made the list in recent years include Jeremy Renner (‘The Hurt Locker’), Emma Stone (‘The Help’) and Jennifer Lawrence (‘The Hunger Games’).
And it’s not just the honour of having his name in the magazine, Domhnall will be honoured by the publication at a Film Festival in New York’s The Hamptons next month.
Keep an eye out for him. We are certainly looking forward to seeing Domhnall in the next few weeks!
